Story of an Outside Jessi
Chapter 1
My name is Jessica Anne Jones, but I prefer to be called Jessi. I live with my mom and my brother, Jacob who is seventeen. One day I will be a famous designer but for now I’m stuck at Brooklyn Middle School. Brooklyn Middle School is the worst place you want to be if you’re a small sixth grader who hasn’t hit their growth spurt yet like me. I never really fit in with any one, but my mom says that is a sign that I will have a lot of friends in the future. What does she to know? I mean I know she has had a lot of experience being my age, but she isn’t even from Brooklyn she is from Nashville. Plus I only have one friend, Bennett Nisbet. She has an older brother, Kendal who is seventeen, and a younger brother, Landon who is eight. Bennett is a straight A student and she knows all my secrets like who I have a huge crush on. My crush is Matt Kingston. He has brown hair, gorgeous brown eyes, and a very attractive smile. Matt sat next to me in math class last year. It was like heaven in school.
Tomorrow is the first day of school and I’m so nervous. I know for sure I will try my hardest not to sit with the gossip girls. My number one goal is to sit next to Matt in about every class, but during the summer I found out he is taken by the evil Jennifer Stanley. She is the most popular girl in school, has the world’s hottest boyfriend, and she never gets in trouble at school. She makes me sick!! Well if this year goes the way I hope Matt will finally dump the “angel” Jennifer. Well since it was our first day Bennett and I sat together in homeroom. Luckily Matt was sitting near me and the teacher said that this will be our permanent seats for the whole year. Yes!!! But in the next class we got assigned seats and Matt was in the back with Bennett while I was stuck in the front beside the evil Jennifer. Lunch was the best because Bennett said Matt had asked about me, but he only asked about my brother. Jacob always ruins everything. He is going to get it when I get home.
Athletics was the worst class of the day because I was picked last for dodge ball. I know I’m not the most athletic kid in the country but I was better at dodge ball than Harry. Here is a little advice about talking to Harry if he asks you if you want to see his secret toe just say no. Don’t think about it just say no. I was on Kevin Harley’s team and Bennett said that he had the biggest crush on me. I think that is the grossest thing I have ever heard.
When I got home I saw Jacob looking into my diary, which had all of my secrets in it. Finally he saw me and ran. He got it lucky because he was in the track team and he knew I was not the best runner. But he got it when mom came home and told him not to do that again. He says I’m her favorite, but she denies it. But even I know she loves me more she just doesn’t want to hurt his feelings. Jacob said I will regret telling on him, and soon I did. When he gave my diary back I saw the page where I wrote Mrs. Kingston in a big heart.
Chapter 2
The next day of school was the worst day a girl could ever have. I saw the page Jacob took from my diary all over the halls with my name on it. As soon as I saw the first one I told my teacher I had to go to the bathroom and stuck my finger down my throat. When my teacher came into the bathroom to check on me and sent me home. But my sick day didn’t last very long because the next day my mom sent me back to school. When I got to class everybody was staring at me and then looked at Matt. You could tell people were holding back their laughs. In the next class Jennifer looked at me with a look that said, “You’re dead meat!!” When we got to lunch Jennifer walked over to where Bennett and I were sitting.
“Jessi I don’t know who you think you are trying to steal my boyfriend from me, but when you think you’re brave enough meet me at the basketball court after school,” she said with a hateful look on her face.
When she said that I started choking on my chicken nugget I was eating. Now I was really going to kill Jacob. After Jennifer left the gorgeous Matt was walking our way, but when he saw me he turned around and walked over to his friends. Bennett and I put up our food and headed to our next class.
Chapter 3
The next few days were the worst days of my young life. Every time I walked into the room everybody was trying hard not to laugh at me. Finally after the first month of school everybody forgot about Mrs. Kingston. Now they were talking about the posters saying Jacob Jones had a crush on Lindsey Hale. Lindsey Hale had a major crush on Jacob and he thought she was the grossest girl in the world. Plus Jacob already had a girlfriend, Katherine Nightshed, but she dumped him thanks to me. Lindsey asked Jacob out and he had no choice but to be the generous guy and say yes. Their relationship only lasted for one hour. After she got the kiss she wanted. When I got home that day I saw Jacob rinsing his mouth for like the eighteenth time. When school ended for the weekend Bennett invited me to a slumber party for her birthday, just girls. Her mom made her invite every girl in the sixth grade even the nasty Jennifer. Every girl was going to be there. I was the first to say I was going and that was my mistake. When I heard Jennifer was going I couldn’t get out of this party because when you tell Bennett you will be there and you don’t show she will hate your guts. I couldn’t risk it because she was my only friend.
I arrived at the party and saw the girls were playing truth or dare. Truth or dare is the game where you can get dirt on girls and you can get dirt on them. When I entered the room all eyes were on me and I could hear whispering. We listened to music, drank soda, and watched a movie. When we went to sleep I woke up with whipped cream on my face. I knew the girls had played a trick on me, but what surprised me most was that Bennett was a part of it. When I asked her about it Monday and she said she just stood there. I told her standing there was just as bad as doing the actual event. We got mad and quit talking to each other. Since she was my only friend I was alone. But she started hanging out with my worst enemy. If you don’t know who that is than go back and reread this story. Pretty soon Bennett would become one of those lip gloss, dressy shirt, and skirt wearing girls. I GOT TO APOLOGIZE QUICK!!! As soon as we got to lunch I told Bennett I was sorry. She forgave me and now we’re friends again, but Jennifer is not happy about it.
Chapter 4
Today Matt told me he had dumped Jennifer and wanted to go out with me of course I said yes and we lived happily ever after. Ok I admit I was lying this did not happen at all I was dreaming it. But can you blame me the boy is an angel. In my dream Matt dumped Jennifer in front of the whole school. Then he walked over to me and asked me to be his girlfriend. Well his friend that’s a girl. But since it was a dream my life is still like a personal junkyard.
When everyone got to homeroom, which was math, we had a problem that we had to find the percentage and write the fraction in decimal form. The fraction was seven over twenty. The good news was we had partners. The bad news was it is the person next us as our partners. Since I was in the corner desk and my only neighbor was Matt we were stuck as partners. Bennett got a smart partner, Jose Gomez. Jose had an A in every subject, even lunch. Matt and I got to work and we tried our hardest and got the answers .35 and 35%. Those are the correct answers right? When everyone was done we had to present our answers and explain how we got them. Matt and I went first; he did most of the talking because I had no clue what we were doing. When everyone finished the teacher, Mrs. Butcher, told us the correct answer, .35 and 35%. Only about 50% of the class even got the correct answer.
The next class, World History, was alright. We had a question and explain our answer. This was due by tomorrow, Thursday. I had a very challenging question, which two countries border the United States? I’m thinking South America and Asia. I have to admit World History is my weakest subject, better than math. I was relieved when we got to English and Language Arts (ELA). ELA is my best subject because my teacher, Mr. Chapman, loves me. He always encouraged me to do my best. Mr. Chapman is my favorite teacher. After ELA we have lunch. Sometimes I have to bring personal lunches because the cafeteria is serving nasty food, such as burritos and Stromboli. After lunch we have Science. Science is my second favorite class because I share a lab table with Matt. After science are Athletics, then band, and then study hall.
Our school day ends at 4:00 p.m. After school I get on the bus and head home, which takes like fifteen minutes. Jacob has a car, but he doesn’t take me home with him because he has track, tennis, and basketball practice. Plus he never can keep a clean car. There are soda cans on the floor, sweaty socks on the seats, and on the back seat there are two dead birds and three dead cats. The strange thing is we don’t, and our neighbors don’t either, have any cats or birds. Jacob’s car is like my life, a junkyard.

Since it’s the weekend I was in my room listening to music and working on a design for a dress. I was disturbed by an awful smell. I almost had to call the ambulance because the smell was killing me. When I turned around I saw Jacob’s butt in my face. Now he really was going to die. It took me about a week to get the awful smell out of my room.
When I went to school I saw there was an ad for a new school outfit design. As soon as I got home I went to my room and threw a bunch of styles together while I was listening to music, Poker Face. When I was done I showed my design, Plaid is Fab, to my mother and she encouraged me on how beautiful it was. I wasn’t the only one to turn in designs. Jennifer Bennett, Macy Johnson, and Janet Gomez had turned in designs also. Their designs were beautiful, but mine was way better. The ad said the design will be presented Thursday over the intercom.
It felt like Thursday would be a long way from now, but it came pretty quick. Thursday morning was the best day of my life because Plaid is Fab won the contest. The next day they hung the uniform designs and everybody was amazed on how good they came out. Even Jennifer complemented it. When I got home I told my mom she said she knew I would win.
